Grandmother and Her Purse: A Funny Short Story

ts1My Grandmother loved her purse. At the time of this story she had a large light brown colored one. A lovely soft leather purse that went where ever she did. Always. It was always full, heavy and she loved it. Here is the funny family story of my Grandmother’s purse.

My Grandmother made weekly visits into town. Since we lived in a very rural area, going to town was the highlight of our week. My Grandmother would cram as much activity as she could into each weekly town visit. This included dropping me off at the local library for story telling time and

she would grocery shop, visit friends and relatives and have her weekly hair appointment visit. It was always a fun occasion. Just one problem.

My Grandmother drove thirty. Thirty miles an hour. That is it. She did not care if she was in town, on a freeway or a country road. Thirty miles an hour was the limit. Yep. Not one bit over. Needless to say, it took us quite a while to go anywhere. Well, at least we were going somewhere. Eventually. She was also very fond of pointing out lovely sites along the way and running off the road, while busy admiring them. We coped. I grew up with very strong nerves and the appreciation of everything. To be enjoyed slowly. Going down the road thirty miles an hour. Looking. Lovely.

One day, my Grandmother made a stop at a favorite cousin’s house. They enjoyed each other’s company and soon, my Grandmother set off for home. Only one small problem. She forgot where she put her purse. Not knowing this, she drove off merrily. The cousin hopped into her car and went driving down the street after my Grandmother. She came up behind my Grandmother’s car and blew the horn. My Grandmother waved and kept on going down the road. Thirty. Yep.

giftGuys, I know how difficult it can be to find that perfect gift for your wife, and the truth is, I have no idea what to buy for mine either. However, here are a few holiday gift ideas that were big hits in the past. I’m hopeful these will help at least some of you out.

Purses: I bought my wife a designer purse a few years ago, it cost a pretty penny, but she loved it.

Bracelets: my wife has plenty of rings, necklaces, and earrings, but one year I bought her a bracelet and she still wears it all the time.

Bath Sets: complete with soaps, salts, and candles, my wife enjoyed several relaxing baths and was very grateful.
